DAY 3 - Morning Athens City Tour Including the Acropolis, Dinner out Tonight
This tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our historian/guide will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896.
Pass by the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament, the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, University, National Library and Constitution Square.
On the Acropolis visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally the monument that “puts order in the mind” - the Parthenon!
Continue on for a visit to the new Acropolis museum, just opened in 2009. Your afternoon is free to explore the Plaka (the oldest section of Athens, closed off to traffic).
Acropolis in Greek means “the highest point of the town.” Tonight we will dine at the legendary Dionysos restaurant, offering a view of the Acropolis so stunning, it beckons guests to fall in love with both the cuisine and mystical beauty of this ancient land.
DAY 4 - Delphi, Private Lecture at Delphi Museum, Lunch & Tasting at Winery
After breakfast we depart for Delphi. Located on the slopes of Mount Parnasus, Delphi, once believed as the center, “Navel” of the Earth, is the home of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. At the oracle of Apollo, Pythia, the high priestess of the temple delivered her famous prophesies. Her latest prophecy – a great cruise is in your future!
You will visit the Treasury of the Athenians and enjoy an exclusive lecture from a local historian at the Delphi Museum, which hosts valuable pieces of art like the “bronze charioteer.”
For lunch, enjoy “Mezes,” a traditional Greek way of eating which involves tastings of many different foods accompanied by a wine tasting. Tonight, ask your tour leader suggestions for dinner on your own.
