Italy is as widely varied as it is deeply historical. From the northern alps of Piedmont to the Mediterranean beaches of Amalfi, from the sophistication of Lombardy to the magic of Veneto and the friendly chaos of Campania – there is something for everyone in the Cities of Italy

Remarkable Agrigento, Girgenti in Sicilian – is an historic delight, holding some of the largest and best-preserved ancient Greek buildings outside of Greece itself. Sicily’s star attraction, the Valley of the Temples, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The oddly-named site sits on a spectacular ridge, not in a valley at all. Its impressive array of archaeological ruins include seven monumental Greek temples in the Doric style, dating back to 6th and 5th centuries BC.
Much of present-day Agrigento is modern, but the city has a number of medieval and Baroque buildings offering a taste of the Middle Ages. A 14th -entury Romanesque Gothic cathedral and the 13th-century Church of San Nicola dominate the historical city center.
The town also has a notable archaeological museum. The impressive ruins and beautiful landscapes of Agrigento have long inspired poets, writers and painters.
